Frequently asked questions
What is an MX record and why does it matter?
An MX (Mail Exchanger) record tells other mail servers where to deliver email for your domain. Misconfigured or missing MX records cause inbound email to fail entirely. Multiple MX records with different priorities provide redundancy — if the primary server is unreachable, delivery falls back to the secondary.
Why might DNS records differ between lookups?
DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate globally due to TTL (time-to-live) caching. Different resolvers around the world may cache older values until the TTL expires. This tool queries Google Public DNS, which reflects the authoritative record as soon as caches expire.
